Stresses in a part can also arise from inhomogeneous thermal expansion, caused by temperature gradients in the part and/or different material combinations in combination with temperature changes.

The temperature distribution in a part (heat conduction) and the resulting thermal stresses can be calculated using the finite element method. The analyses are carried out sequentially or fully coupled depending on the level of mutual influence.
